Occupational Health and Wellbeing

This page provides information to staff of the University on occupational health, the Employee Assistance Programme and sickness absence procedures.

Managers can make a referral to our Occupational Health service using an on-line tool.  Staff can access a wide range of information from our Employee Assistance Provider, including counselling services.

Occupational Health

With effect from 1 November 2018 the university's occupational health service for staff will be delivered by Duradiamond Health.  Referrals are made by the employee's line manager using an on-line referral system.  Further information is given below.

The Duradiamond Health Portal includes a video clip on making a good referral, and for staff a video about their referral, as well as a library of material about common conditions.

Referrals for pre-placement/post offer occupational health assessments for job applicants are managed by the People Directorate.

Sickness Absence

The University's policy and procedure for managing staff sickness absence can be found in the Sickness Absence Policy and Procedure.

Managers who wish to discuss:

  • concerns about a member of staff's sickness absence
  • an occupational health referral
  • reasonable adjustments for disability

should contact the for their area.

Wellbeing Support for Staff

Confidential Care is an independent, free and completely confidential advice service, run by CiC, which is available to you and your family members. From management challenges at work to relationship difficulties at home, from legal problems to family dilemmas, they are only a phone-call away.

The service – known as an 'Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)' - is staffed by a range of highly experienced consultants, including counsellors, psychotherapists, solicitors and financial experts, all qualified to give you clear, relevant guidance on the challenges you face. Counselling is one of the forms of support that is available (up to six sessions), which you can access by phoning the helpline: 0800 085 1376.
