We prepare undergraduate and postgraduate students to serve diverse populations in a variety of education related roles - as teachers, allied education professionals and researchers.
Welcome to the School of Education, University of ÐÓ°ÉappÏÂÔØ. An important goal of the School is the advancement of knowledge and professional practice through teaching, research, innovation and enterprise. This is set against the background that our key commitments include training inspiring teachers and researchers who have the capacity to innovate through pedagogical knowledge and practice, and through new modes of conceptualising and designing research. These goals are central to our character, and accomplishing these goals underpins our commitment to self-reflection and renewal, and to working collaboratively with partners within and outside the University to achieve our goals.
The School offers several programmes, from undergraduate to Doctoral
level, as well as a range of routes for initial teacher education. Undergraduate
programmes include the innovative BA Primary Education Studies (Accelerated), BA
Primary Education, BA Early Years and and
the degree in Childhood and Youth Studies. Graduate programmes include the MA
Education, Doctor of Education (EdD) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). Initial Teacher
Education, programmes include the Postgraduate Certificate in Education
(PGCE): Early Years, Primary, Secondary and Further Education. All programmes
are carefully designed to empower and enable graduates to develop important
knowledge and skills they can use to contribute to transforming classrooms,
staffrooms, boardrooms, communities and society.
Staff in the School are involved in multiple research and scholarship
activities, examining and seeking solutions to several complex issues around
Wellbeing, Identity and Inclusion, Educational Effectiveness and Improvement, as
well as Professional Practice and Teaching Innovations. Our research activities draw upon several
conceptual, methodological and data analysis approaches – underlining the
richness and breadth of skills our staff possess.
The School has numerous partners within and outside education and plays a pivotal role in community service at the local, national, regional and international levels. The history and reputation of the University of ÐÓ°ÉappÏÂÔØ and the School of Education makes us the preferred partner for educational consultancies and other partnership opportunities.
Furthermore, our staff are on the boards of several academic journals; hold membership and senior roles in several professional organisations and other agencies; and have been recognised with prestigious teaching and research fellowships. The School of Education is committed to improving its services to its diverse communities and regularly engages forums where staff, students and partners can feedback and input into our Comprehensive Growth Strategy.
