Our subjects

Most of our engineering disciplines offer a four-year course which leads to an Integrated Master's degree and an 'extended' degree which includes a foundation year to prepare you for degree-level study.

Chemical engineering degrees

Communities and societies

Our active student-led societies offer a space for personal and academic growth, as well as new opportunities to make lasting friendships. Students can take part in activities throughout the year, both through the department and via the wider Students’ Union.

Research and partnerships

Research in engineering is focused on achieving improvements to society through tackling important questions. Our research themes include biomedical engineering, handling materials, sustainability, mathematical modelling, future technology and the Internet of Things, and next generation materials.

Dr Wim Melis is working on technology that could significantly improve sound quality for hearing implant users.

Join us as a research student

Graduates from our undergraduate forensic science courses can move on to our MRes degree. Normally, you will need a 2.1 or First. If you have a suitable research proposal in engineering, we can help you apply to the university and find the appropriate supervisor.
