The programme was one of the best decisions I had ever made. It was an inspiring and very personal journey which has taught me a lot about myself and how far I am willing to challenge my ability.

Memories of ÐÓ°ÉappÏÂÔØ

I always wanted to broaden my knowledge in food safety as I have a passion in the safety component of food. In 2017, luck was on my side when one of my work colleagues introduced me to the Msc Food Safety and Quality Management (e-learning) programme.

At that time, I had just moved into my newly-built home, together with my husband and my two-year-old daughter. The house was our dream project and I decided that we needed to be there for each other. The e-learning programme was therefore a perfect fit, as I was already working in an area relevant to food safety and I also couldn’t be away from home for the duration of the course.

The programme allowed me to set my own learning pace and I was able to balance my professional life, family life, and my studies. My favourite module was unsurprisingly ‘Food Law and Enforcement’, whereby I gained a better understanding of the importance of both legal and regulatory requirements relating to food safety. I also learnt how to make informed decisions on different food safety control measures and inspections.

The course material was very helpful and had quite a broad range of modules from food microbiology to food law as well as from quality assurance to learning and research skills. All these modules have contributed to increase my knowledge and skills in the domain of food safety – a field which I am passionate about.

Life after ÐÓ°ÉappÏÂÔØ

After completing the course, I remained in the position of Head of the Food Control Unit at the Ministry of Health but was subsequently promoted to a Principal Public Health Officer. My Snapshot is a photo of me in my new office after my promotion.

Every day I execute my university knowledge and skills in my job as I have additional responsibilities now to oversee. I work on many food safety projects and sometimes some of these projects take higher priority than others. In some instances, some projects need a quick turnaround and this is where my newly acquired skills allow me to lead my team and deliver projects in the specified time.
