Educator, Head of Mathematics and Staff Governor, Wayfield Primary School

I think it's a real badge of pride that there are generations of teachers who studied and qualified at ÐÓ°ÉappÏÂÔØ, becoming outstanding leaders and educators.

Memories of ÐÓ°ÉappÏÂÔØ

One of my more unexpected memories of ÐÓ°ÉappÏÂÔØ was captaining the UoG Badminton team to victory! Playing sport helped me to build new friendships in different departments, destress and learn a new skill. Having played very little badminton before university, the club encouraged new players to participate and gave me some amazing memories.

As a career changer, I chose to study at ÐÓ°ÉappÏÂÔØ as I wanted to find a university that was in an easily accessible location. The Avery Hill campus meant that I was close enough to home, but crucially that I could secure experience at lots of the nearby primary schools.

Many of teachers I had spoken to, when looking for a course, said that they had a great experience as a student at ÐÓ°ÉappÏÂÔØ. These were a combination of established and newly qualified teachers as well as a variety of practitioners who had gone on to specialise in other areas of education. The course went beyond my expectations. The combination of blended learning allowed me to prepare for lectures and take probing questions to seminars. The materials were wide-ranging and offered a variety of perspectives, helping me to better understand my discipline more holistically.

With so many different approaches to education across the world, I wanted to try and learn from the practices of teachers in other countries.

ÐÓ°ÉappÏÂÔØing at ÐÓ°ÉappÏÂÔØ allowed me to do this.

Life after ÐÓ°ÉappÏÂÔØ

After graduating from ÐÓ°ÉappÏÂÔØ, I joined the TeachFirst teacher training programme. Within two years, I became Head of KS2 Maths at Wayfield Primary School as well as a Staff Governor. I’m proud to have contributed chapters to two books and written an iBook on deploying Apple technology, remote learning practices and collaborative culture in teaching. Next year, I will be completing a MA in Educational Leadership in 2021 and looking towards possible further research and academic study.
