Jack Woolcomb

Chief Clinical Sleep and NIV Physiologist (Band 7), Royal Brompton Hospital

I chose the Biologyprogramme at ÐÓ°ÉappÏÂÔØ due to its wide variety of modules to choose from. This allowed me to specialise from year two onwards with chosen elective modules, tailoring the course to my career aspirations.

Memories of ÐÓ°ÉappÏÂÔØ

I miss the community of university, the diversity of the people you meet and the lecturers you work with. In particular, there was a course trip to Spain which provided exciting research and allowed me to meet a diverse number of students on various courses.

I loved my course; the modules matched all my expectations with elements exceeding them. Physiology-based modules and labs have especially helped me develop my career within sleep physiology, which I didn’t realise was a field until I was at university!

Life after ÐÓ°ÉappÏÂÔØ

After graduating, I began working in the NHS as a clinical support worker, before progressing into the field of clinical sleep physiology. I have since completed further courses relating to this field of work, such as the Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) accreditation and am now Chief Clinical Sleep and NIV Physiologist (Band 7) at Royal Brompton Hospital.

My programme at ÐÓ°ÉappÏÂÔØ gave me the fundamental learning, through its tailored modules, for my subsequent training position in sleep physiology.

To anyone currently studying, take every opportunity. It may feel overwhelming at the time, but you will be rewarded for every piece of work you do. Believe in yourself and trust the process.
