I was looking for a university that had high spec equipment, as at the time, I thought I would be going into film production. The university has amazing studio space, software and equipment which was hugely beneficial in my area; it was a great choice to study there.
Memories of ÐÓ°ÉappÏÂÔØ
Coming to ÐÓ°ÉappÏÂÔØ was great as I made many contacts, learned so much about my industry and gained a lot of independence. It provided me with a lot of opportunities I wouldn't have been given elsewhere, such as getting to go to the BBC Academy and to be trained by industry professionals. The lecturers were passionate about film and wanted us to succeed. I particularly enjoyed the guest lectures put on by people working in film and TV.
The course allowed me to try out many different areas, such as camera operating and sound design and helped me learn what area I wanted to work within. Many people on my course have since become freelancers and many have helped each other get jobs within the field.
Life after ÐÓ°ÉappÏÂÔØ
I've worked in the film industry for over 5 years after graduating from the Film and TV Production programme in 2016. I've worked across marketing, publicity, social media, VFX, and now I work within a creative services team at Warner Bros. Entertainment. In my role at Warner Bros. I project manage the creation of all assets to promote Warner Bros.' UK content, whether it's for films, TV or games. This includes billboards, social media content, radio adverts, TV adverts, bus stop ads, film premieres and events; literally everything! I love my role as it allows me to work on so many different genres and types of content and I get to see the impact of my work around the UK and in the box office results.
To anyone interested in working in film, you need to really want it and I'd say it's the same for all creative industries. It's very competitive and can be tricky to get into if you don't know people but it can be done! My advice would be to network as much as you can, and to say yes to opportunities that come your way, as you need to have work experience in addition to the right qualifications.
