What is the PARKE Café?

The PARKE Café aims to aid a deeper understanding within the university, and beyond, of the significance of Practice as Research and Knowledge Exchange.  We are keen to develop links across disciplines within the university and with external partners: from grass roots organisations, the creative industries to policymakers and international business.

The work will focus on the Sustainable Developments Goals, approached through co-creation, liveness, and embodiment. Our aim is to gain a deeper understanding across the university staff (academic and professional services) to its importance, recognising and giving deserved status to such research, within the rostra of traditional research outputs.

Successful PARKE Café's will:

  • Bring in practitioners from diverse backgrounds.
  • Enable expert inputs to the group
  • Extend this joint knowledge into multiple small conversations.
  • Generate new ideas

Successful PARKE Café's do not:

  • Force people into long term commitments
  • Promise the world
  • Abandon people afterwards

Building a partnerships would include:

  • Development of an idea
  • Being clear on what each partner will gain from a potential relationship
  • Being clear on how the University will gain from a potential partnership
  • Recognise the need to develop / sustain a relationship over multiple years
