Research / Scholarly interests
In 2021 Mark completed his doctorate which considered the relationship between functional screening tests and performance in elite youth sport (basketball). A key driver in this interest is ensuring practitioners can justify the use of time and resources to undertake screening tests and that they relate to outcomes. Refinement in this field develops improved relationships with coaches who are more able to link SSEM time and sport performance.
Further research interests are wider musculoskeletal testing application and considering group, team and leadership dynamics learnt in elite sport and how they may transfer to undergraduate physiotherapy programmes.
The wider impact of this field is directly related to Mark’s clinical work in both developmental and elite sport and in undergraduate physiotherapy teaching.
