Dr Isabella Ye joined the University of ÐÓ°ÉappÏÂÔØ in January 2022, after completing her Ph.D. in Tourism Management from the University of Queensland, Australia. Her PhD research explored the nuanced visitor-landscape interactions at an outback heritage attraction in Australia and informed interpretation practices in nature-based heritage sites. Isabella’s area of research focuses on contested tourism landscapes, mobility (in)justice, border, visitor management, heritage tourism, and critical tourism & hospitality studies. Isabella is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), awarded by Advance HE.

Before joining ÐÓ°ÉappÏÂÔØ, Isabella worked as a lecturer in tourism and MBA instructor at the Business School, University of Queensland, Australia. She taught a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate subjects in the fields of sustainable tourism, hotel operations, visitor management, and discourses in hospitality. Isabella is a critical pedagogue and specializes in game-based learning approaches to enhance student engagement and performances, such as the Escape Box Game, Lego Serious Play®, and simulations. She is a certified LEGO Serious Play® (LSP) facilitator for Higher Education.

Isabella is an associate member of the Institute of Hospitality (IoH), the Council of Australiasian Tourism and Hospitality Education (CAUTHE), and the Council for Hospitality Management Education (CHME). Isabella is an advocate for mental well-being initiates and currently holds a Standard Mental Health First Aider license (Credential ID 44944-294806). Isabella also holds a Carbon Literacy Certificate.

Isabella also worked in the hospitality industry for 6 years as a front office manager and corporate event sales.

Research / Scholarly interests

Isabella’s area of research focuses on contested tourism landscapes, mobility (in)justice, border, heritage interpretation, post-humanism, and critical tourism & hospitality studies. Furthermore, Isabella uses primarily ethnography, visual methods and memorywork in her research work.
