Features and Benefits

  • Advice and guidance on a range of assistive technology solutions and how to best integrate them into mainstream teaching and learning.
  • Work with software developers to ensure they are producing an accessible product.
  • Work with staff to help them to create accessible content that can be used by everyone.
  • Work with the Disability & Dyslexia Centre to ensure the usability of a product, service environment or facility by people with the widest range of capabilities.

The service is available to all members of university staff and all students

    09.00 - 17.00 weekdays other than University and Bank Holidays

The following applications are available for all students to use in general computer labs:

  • – a literacy support tool designed to assist students who require extra assistance when reading or composing text.
  • Inspiration 7.5 - a tool to help plan, research and complete projects successfully.
Assistive technology at Avery Hill Campus
  • Height adjustable desks are located on the ground floor of the Mansion Building in both the Mansion Computing Lab and the Silent Room in the back of the Library. Additionally there is one in Fry Lab on the first floor of the Fry Building / Southwood Site.
  • A text magnifier,  "Large Key" keyboard & SuperNova, screen  magnification software, are installed in the North Hall located at the back of the Mansion Library.
  • A "Large Key" keyboard and SuperNova, screen magnification software, is located in the Fry Computing Lab on the first floor of the Fry building/Southwood Site.
  • - Mind mapping software is available at all Avery Hill computing labs.
  • Each station has a twenty-two inch flat screen LCD monitor.
