University of ÐÓ°ÉappÏÂÔØ students win big at the world’s largest filmmaking challenge

The students won bronze in the amateur category at this year’s IFP Festival as part of the 50 Hour Filmmaking Challenge.

The IFP, previously known as the India Film Project, which is now in its 13th year invites creatives from around the world to compete in a range of competitions such as the 50-hour challenges, which push competitors to ‘create their next masterpiece in just 50 hours’. There are currently three categories: music, film, and photography.

University of ÐÓ°ÉappÏÂÔØ students win filmmaking award

This year, three, second year University of ÐÓ°ÉappÏÂÔØ Film and TV Production students; Anarghya Kodam, Chante Brown and Harry Boyd competed in the filmmaking competition and were awarded bronze in the amateur category for their film, Game On. The short film is about a pickpocket duo, racing against death with limited lives, who must outsmart their past selves in a high-risk final heist.

Besides a bronze trophy, winners get mentoring, a chance to showcase their film at the annual IFP festival, paid subscription to a screenwriting tool for two years and microphones. Competitors were given a theme and a choice of genres to choose from and they were judged on visual appeal, story and narrative flow, characters and on-screen performances, adherence to the theme and adherence to the genre.

Lab Mo, the BA Film and TV Production Programme Leader said:

‘This major international film award shows remarkable initiative on behalf of the trio of ÐÓ°ÉappÏÂÔØ University film students who were able to write, shoot and edit an entire short film from beginning to end in just 50 hours. The fact that their completed film was of a standard that attracted the bronze award out of 40,000 entries worldwide is indicative of their cinematic prowess and potential. As just one of many awards our students receive each year, it is a testament to the sustained quality of filmmaking at the University of ÐÓ°ÉappÏÂÔØ!’
