A well-recommended university for postgraduate science

Many students have joined the University of ÐÓ°ÉappÏÂÔØ for postgraduate degree courses in science due to recommendations from friends and family. Graduate Queen Odunze, for example, relocated to the UK with her family to study MSc Biotechnology after recommendations she received from friends and family about the teaching and facilities of the University of ÐÓ°ÉappÏÂÔØ. Her course was the perfect choice of postgraduate degree to pursue after a placement repairing medical equipment and given her interests in medicine and technology.

Meanwhile, for Linda Dcruz, who now works as a scientist, it was exploring more information about her programme, MSc Formulation Science, that convinced her it was the right course to study. The course piqued her interest, being the first Master’s degree in Europe of its kind in this exciting area of science concerned with the formulation of products. She also learned about the diversity of the staff and student population at the Medway Campus and the importance of inclusivity – a key value of the University of ÐÓ°ÉappÏÂÔØ – which was specifically what she was looking for as an international student.

Many postgraduate science students at the University of ÐÓ°ÉappÏÂÔØ continued their studies from undergraduate level. The University offers a Fast Track Scheme to support current students with a simpler application process for postgraduate study, and the ÐÓ°ÉappÏÂÔØ Postgraduate Scholarship is available. For Shona Reid, this meant a £5000 reduction in her fees  and allowed her to progress to MSc Food Innovation after her BSc Human Nutrition (now titled Human Nutrition and Health). She is now working towards a PhD with ÐÓ°ÉappÏÂÔØ.

This additional year (as an MSc Food Innovation student) has allowed me to develop in confidence and hone in on the area of study that I am passionate about.

Our postgraduate science programmes have an established record of success, with alumni achieving impressive career milestones. For example, after completing her  MSc Agriculture for Sustainable Development – a postgraduate programme taught by the Natural Resources Institute – , Miranda Elsby with support from her lab supervisor. landed a key role as Regional Agricultural Scientist at Ocean Spray, a multinational agricultural company.

Reputation for world-leading research

Students can also apply to undertake a Science Master’s by Research degree. This was the route chosen by Talia Petruk after her BSc Forensic Science. With her Master’s degree, she was able to work in the University’s labs under supervisor Dr Sophie Turfus and delve into the area of research that had piqued her interest during her undergraduate degree, forensic entomotoxicology. Talia now works at the University of ÐÓ°ÉappÏÂÔØ as a Technical Demonstrator for its Forensic Science Department.

The Master’s by Research programme has a greater focus on independent research than the taught Master’s programme, giving me the time to explore the forensic world of research in-depth and the freedom to design my research exactly how I want to.
